Household products and sensitive skin

The environment in your home may be significantly contributing to your sensitive skin. The building materials, carpeting, bedding and even paint in your house could be emitting harmful toxins, causing your skin to become over reactive and your health to be compromised. Although it can be difficult and quite expensive to control all of these factors, we do have easy control over the every day, household products we use.

Cleaning supplies have a huge impact on our indoor environment. Using products with chemical solvents, strong scents and harsh ingredients are potentially dangerous, and can have a very negative impact on one’s health.

Take some time to look at all the cleaning products that you use – dish soap, laundry detergent, bathroom cleaners, etc. As much as possible, use products that do not contain petrochemicals, phosphates, trisodium nitrilotriacetate, chlorine bleach, phthalates, formaldehyde, or other harsh ingredients.

Visit your local health food store or check out the Amazon Green Pages for natural alternatives. Also consider making your own cleaning supplies. Here are some great books on the subject. It feels good to know you are creating a clean, safe home, that will contribute to, rather than take away from, your overall health.
